I love Mid Century Modern design and will always jump at the chance to work on one of these classic Eichler homes. We started by updating the old worn-out driveway and entry with new concrete slabs and steps leading to the persimmon orange front door. A tastefully subtle low breeze block wall defines the space behind colorful drought tolerant plantings. The concrete slabs continue into the atrium, made cozy enough for chilling with a coffee or evening cocktail by adding a simple stone fountain surrounded by lush planting tropical plantings. The backyard got a significant upgrade with new concrete slabs poured with diagonal drainage gaps to allow water to permeate directly into the soil. Matching the chimney’s mod pattern, a new retaining wall emphasizes the beautiful drought tolerant plant palette. Chilly evenings are now enjoyed around the new gas fire pit on the wooden deck and seating area softened by Jasmine-framed custom steel art screen designed to echo the breeze block walls.
